The Shore Managers Dream Job

As far as survey locations go, it doesn’t get much better than island hopping in the Maldives!

Gardline has recently completed a survey for the Nationwide Submarine Cable Project, in the Maldives, using multi-purpose survey vessel the MV Duke.

Duke Maldives Survey Track

The vessel is capable of a wide range of technical work including seismic, multi-beam, side scan and drop cores.

The scope of work for this particular job included multi-beam bathymetry from 3m to 2,800m water depth, topographic work and diver swim surveys at all landing sites.

No doubt the captain and crew were kept busy negotiating the many reefs but hopefully they had a moment to sit back and enjoy the view!

CGG’s MegaBar MC Survey under the Seisintel microscope!

This month we move over to Brazil and use the power of the Seisintel database to analyse vessel dynamics in what looks to be a very challenging area for seismic acquisition.

The CGG Oceanic Vega mobilised for the 14,500 sqkm MegaBar MC survey from Itaqui, with a 12 x 100 x 8100m spread in October last year and has been battling the currents ever since. Struggling at less than 3.5 knots in one direction and then trying to slow down in the other as the vessel speed increases to above 5.5 knots.

The Seisintel database is rich with meta-data from each and every survey conducted globally, providing valuable insights into environmental conditions. Source size, streamer ballasting, continuous recording, steerable streamers and spare rigging would be a must have in these harsh and remote operating environments.

Check out the video below and let us know you thoughts!

March Global Seismic Snapshot via Seisintel

The world’s seismic vessel fleet continues to gather momentum globally, with multiple surveys currently being acquired all around the globe.

The snapshot below, taken directly from the Seisintel database, shows all the active seismic vessels as of the 22 March 2016.

Next month we expect to see increased seismic activity in the north, with the summer season commencing.

Feature Region: Myanmar

March has been a busy month in Myanmar, with four of the largest seismic spreads in history being towed for Shell, PTTEP, Woodside, BG and Berlanga.

Myanmar Overview 20160322_2

We will leave it up to the vessel owners to fight for the title of ‘who has the biggest spread’, but it’s certainly impressive what modern 3D vessels can achieve.

At this rate of acquisition, the next big question is – where to next for the vessels?

Stay tuned for next month’s update as we follow the vessels into the Northern summer.

Global Seismic Snapshot via Seisintel

Despite the downturn, there are still seismic surveys ongoing in all corners of the globe. The snapshot below taken directly from the Seisintel database shows all the active seismic vessels as of yesterday (3rd Feb). As is usual for this time of year it’s still quiet in the North due to the winter season but we expect the annual vessel migration to begin in earnest around April.

Seisintel Overview

It’s interesting to note a large percentage of the fleet are acquiring multi-client surveys which is a direct result of the difficult proprietary market at the moment.

Digging a bit deeper into the Seisintel database shows some tricky acquisition on the Patriakos West 3D Seismic Survey which is being acquired by the Polar Empress for Hellenic Petroleum. A multi azimuth with obstacles all around would be keeping the crew busy for sure!
